Shum Yin Ping is visually impaired but it did not stop her from pursuing a musical career. She teaches music and dancing, regularly performs at fund-raising charity concerts, and judges singing contests. Yin Ping also competed in singing competitions and won numerous awards. She represented Hong Kong at the “The 4th Asia Pacific Wataboshi Music Festival” in Australia. In 2011, she is the recipient of the Merit Award in “Cross All Borders: Hong Kong Festival Showcasing New Performing Artists with Disabilities 2011” organised by the ADA. Also in 2015, she was awarded the Most Outstanding Performer Award (Aged 21 or above) in ”Cross All Borders: Hong Kong Festival Showcasing New Performing Artists with Disabilities 2015”, organised by the ADA, and the Champion (Solo group) of "Music in Darkness 2015: singing contest for visually impaired persons in Hong Kong” organised by Lions Club of Tuen Mun and The Hong Kong Society for the Blind.
